waiting well.

Waiting on God is hard. Waiting on anything is hard. We want it now! We want our prayers answered in our timing and in our way.  We say we trust God, but do we really? We know that the God we serve is faithful. We’ve seen time and time again, God come through on His promises.  He is the only one, true and PERFECT GOD. Perfect in all His ways, that includes HIS timing and HIS word. So why is it so hard when we are waiting?

Most times when we are waiting on God, we are asking Him to do something that we believe will make us happy or satisfy us. In some cases, God may have confirmed something and we are waiting for Him to bring it to past, and other times we are waiting to simply hear a response from God. Waiting for confirmation, waiting for the green light, or maybe even the red light to stop something. God can communicate to us through a lot of different ways. He communicates with us through His word, through prayer, and through others to name a few. Whatever that thing is that we are waiting on, we must trust that God not only heard us, but He will provide us with an answer, thee best answer. His response could be yes, no, or simply not right now. A lot of times we get stuck and frustrated in the “not now”. (We also get mad at the no’s, but we will save that one for another day)

Isaiah 60:22 “When the time is right, I, the Lord, will make it happen.”

God loves us soooooooo much we can’t even fathom. He loves us too much to give us something that we are not ready for. It’s like an earthly father giving his child a regular cup instead of a sippy cup too soon. There is a 99% chance that they will drop it and cause a huge spill that must be cleaned. The same is true for us as God’s adult children. He doesn’t want to give us anything prematurely that could cause us pain, heartache, or suffering in the future. God knows everything about us (…remember he created us!) He knows what may be too much for us. So we must learn to not only be okay in the waiting stage, but also how to thrive while waiting. To thrive simply means to grow, develop, or flourish.

So what is it that God is trying to teach you in this waiting season? Does He need to work something out of you OR work something into you? Is He trying to rid you of any pride, greed, idolatry, lust, or envy? Is He trying to fill you with patience, love, His truth, faithfulness, and self-control? It is important that while waiting, we are not too busy thinking about our end goal, that we miss what God is trying to show us now!

It’s hard to be still in a world that is constantly moving. When it seems (and sometimes that’s exactly what it is, an assumption) that others around us are moving at a fast pace, or that God is moving more quickly in their lives, we must be reminded what God said in His word.

Romans 8:26-28 (The Message translation) “Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayers out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is working into something good.”

God is always working behind the scenes, whether we see it or not. The Lord will fight for His children. So while what seems like a long while, trust that God is working things out. Build your faith on His promise that He will never fail you. And wait expecting that God will not only answer your prayer, but that He will blow your mind with his goodness and faithfulness.
